I think going to the moon is the one great thing the U.S. has done in my lifetime, I remember watching it at school. I would like to get a Mars mission underway, but only if we pay as we go ... palming the cost off on a future generation isn't the same. Most people have no interest in it, though, at least not if it involves any sacrifice.
