Yes, it's a dilemma. But, like many problems, it has a calculus, although no one fully understands it. People feel unsafe when they feel a threat. That threat often comes because of an imbalance. By contributing to and increasing the imbalance, we increase the threat. Other times, the threat is more perceived than real. And there are those unscrupulous among us who inflate the threat for personal gain. If our response to the threat is seen as disproportionate, because of the deception, then we ourselves are seen as the threat by others. A vicious circle. And, believe me, the 'have nots' are not going to be the ones to reverse the escalation.
