Hi J,

I dont know what % if DTs customer base is also wired for cable. From what I understand DT also owns the cable and provides television services. The more remote an area you live in the less chance you will have cable that runs to your building. The people who subscribe to TV in this way have a combined telephone/cable bill sent in a single billing statement.

There is also competition in Satellite TV and interestingly enough about 75% of the people elect to buy the dish, equipment and send their money to somebody else.

Right now DT still has a complete monopoly. The soon to be completed deregulation process threatens their current business only within Germany, but opportunities are also opening up in other lands. For DT to better compete in a free marketplace, they must offer the most attractive services. At the same time they must do a better job with their customer service. Public perception of service is below US standards and from what I gather in talking to my colleagues in the office, if there were another provider to choose from many would jump the DT ship just out of spite. If I was associated with DT I would be very worried knowing people were carrying such an attitude.

PS - I think the PAIR 25K news is a marketing gimmick. I would like to hear what the conditions are for this.
