What did you feel when Kennedy said "We choose to go to the moon? We choose to go to the moon..."

I was proud of that. You see the way Kennedy framed it. He said "we," which intentionally made me the rest of us a part of his vision. My contribution was limited to my tax dollars, which I was old enough at the time to be paying. So I felt that accomplishment was a little bit mine, even though my bit was beyond trivial.

I really admire the folks who pulled that off. I wouldn't describe that as being proud of them, though, more like in awe and appreciative. I don't feel proud of the liberation of France from the Nazis any more than I feel ashamed of slavery.
