Hi Ray - Glad to hear you are not getting the volcanic plume. Weren't there lots of flights over and around Mt. St. Helens at that time, so the FAA would be practiced and alert ? Did FAA staffing drop in the ten + years between events? I understand that many of the air traffic controllers hired after the strike and firing by Reagan have been retiring. One thing I have heard is there were some hijacking practice drills scheduled for around 9/11 - so some of the first questions were is this part of exercise or real ? Evidently Al Q and company has able to find out well ahead of time. That suggests assistance from some intelligence agency...
