About 25 years ago, I read the novel "The Ugly American". The book lamented the fact that we had Americans running all over the world trampling on local customs and sensibilities while promoting the crassest of America, and generally acting like tremendous assholes. Now we have an Ugly American as President, leading a crusade for other Ugly Americans to convince the world just how ugly we are. This is the lowest point for America internationally in my lifetime.

Did you notice how quickly the Lebanese pointed out that they wanted no "help" from President Bush with their problems? To say that Bush had had NOTHING to do with recent events in their country, despite his claim of credit.
Bush is desperate to make the mistaken invasion of Iraq seem somehow worthwhile, instead of the grinding maw eating lives that it has become. Just as we associate LBJ with Vietnam, Bush IS Iraq.
