I think I know why the percentage of Americans that still think that WMD were found in Iraq is so high compared to other countries. So MANY, probably about 30% <g> will NEVER admit they were WRONG. Maybe all societies are like ours with a hard-core group of believers that were behind an action that turned out to be wrong but would never ADMIT it.. I don't know.. But I do KNOW there are a bunch here on SI that LIE <no pun intended, <g>> in that catergory. So I assume this is sort of a cross-section.. Although not quite, as I guess they might be more conservative.
But in general, it seems like Americans have been preached to for SO long that they are ALWAYS right, so moral, that they can do no wrong, etc. That they would never ADMIT to the contrary.. Maybe all societies are the same. I don't know again.. I only really know THIS society really WELL. That's why I comment about it. I can't comment about others.. And if I lived in Russia under Putin, in England under Blair, etc. I would be a dissident for I always want to IMPROVE my situation for myself and others, for I know my OWN the best, I know where ALL my warts lie. But I doubt VERY MUCH if MY detractors HERE would be dissidents WHEREVER they lived. They just don't exhibit the character..
Up until a year or so ago, little loud-mouths here on the SI threads I read, were still calling for a WMD surprise. It didn't happen and so NOW they are saying that is NOT why we invaded Iraq. What can I say about THEY, the sycophants, that blindly follow any leader that is not in touch with the best for society. Except they would be the followers that nailed up JC..They would be the Tories that would follow King George and on and on..
But what is so ironic, after the fact, after history proves them wrong, they grab on to that change, which I guess is okay..
"Better late than Never", I guess.
