Interesting... the very links Pilchie provided variously call the newspaper "Communist" or "the left-leaning Il Manifesto", so there appears to be some journalistic imprecision going on.

Whatever it is, (and I'll freely admit that I'm not even remotely conversant with the current state of Italian politics, or the Italian Communist Party which has been in the government for many decades [are they more like the Social Democrats of Germany or France, or the rest of Europe, then they are like the Stalinists or Leninists of the old Soviet Empire, or the Maoists in China or elsewhere???? I haven't the foggiest... but I *do* notice that a lot of those Italian politicians have no problems at all being on the boards of numerous mega-corporations, so I suspect that semantics have been a little over-wrought in some cases....)

Be that as it may, you might find the *official* response of the right-leaning, strong Bush ally, Italian government more interesting then that of any newspaper with an axe to grind:
