The Australian system has most basic costs paid by the national Medicare programme.

In addition, people can opt for private insurance which covers private care in more opulent surroundings and procedures not covered by Medicare.

It's well funded state-of-the-art care and everyone seems happy.

On the other hand, the Australian Medicare coverage for dentistry is very under-funded which entails long waits. Most people either pay privately or have private insurance.
