>Its not their's to give up.

It actually is, more or less. They are the caretakers, and Jews are not allowed to go there. That's why Arafat was able to use Sharon's visit to the "Temple Mount" where the mosque is located as a catalyst for the second intifada.

Actually less rather than more. The act of "giving up" something suggests ownership.....at least to me. The Arabs may be caretakers but I see them as renters. Renters can vacate a property but they don't have the authority to give it up to someone else.

The city of Jerusalem is under the jurisdiction of Israel, not Palestine. Israel controls the land under the building, and if push comes to shove, can do what it wants in regards to the mosque. That was the point Sharon was making when he went to the Temple Mount. It was the basis for my comment.

Actually, biblical archeologists are up in arms with this arrangement, because the Palestinian caretakers have no regards for the relics and have been engaging in construction that the archeologists fear will result in the Mount collapsing.

I am unclear to what construction you are referring. From what I've learned, the only construction they have done to the building has been retrofiting in case of earthquakes. That's an absolute necessity for a building 1000 years old located in earthquake country. My understanding is that work was done over ten years ago. It is also my understanding that the Arabs are very proud/respectful of the building's design and would not damage it intentionally.

I wonder why the Israelis have never interfered.

They are probably hoping it will collapse along with the Dome of the Rock.
