"There appears no way out without a lot of pain. And most engaging in this reckless speculative behaviour deserve it."

I watched "Wall Street" the other night, and reprised Gordon Gekko telling his young protege that "Greed is good!" It's become an American disease since.

Easy credit is like crack. We all look down on crackheads as weak, but we regard them as pathetic victims. We consider the crack dealers as the real evildoers.

Yet the result will be all the easy credit crackheads will pay the price of financial ruin (even more now with the new bankruptcy law). The easy credit crack dealers, the lenders, will be bailed out by the American taxpayer after they direct their bought congresspeople to do so, just as they did with the new bankruptcy law. A few of the less connected lenders will be allowed to die and be publicly flogged, just as a few CEO's are really going to jail today.
