Tell that to Spain. Tell that to Iraq, where the primary operation is al Qaeda Iraq, that report to bin Laden.
Osama is neutralized. Global terrorism is not. Zarqawi is leading the charge in Iraq. If we took out Zarqawi, that would be a bigger win than taking out Osama. If you think killing Osama would solve the entire problem, you are deluding yourself. Killing him is just one piece of a very large puzzle.
At the point in time of 9/11, al Qaeda was responsible for over 90% of world terrorism. His organization essentially was international terrorism. We had the majority of the leadership in one place at one time. We had an opportunity to take them out, to avenge the 9/11 victims, to send a message of justice and retribution to other would be terrorists. And we chose to divert our resources to Iraq.
Poppycock. We've taken out over 95% of Al Qaeda's leadership and terrorism still is rampant. Taking out leadership figures is only one small part of the game. Osama is one of the few left of the old org. But terrorism is slippery. It doesn't die when you take out the leadership. Bush and friends understand that and have decided to fight the battle on ALL fronts, not just the going after Osama front.
re: going after Saddam, Iran, Syria,
No
Who do you think supports cross-border terrorism into Iraq and Israel? It's Iran and Syria. Who do you think paid suicide bombers' families to go after Israeli citizens? Saddam. Who do you think funded 95% of the world's terrorism? Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Any sane policy has to focused on all the sources of terrorism. Not just the one Osama.
It's irritating as hell when you try to put words in my mouth, and tell me what I think. Why don't you respond specifically, with references to what I post rather than what you invent. OK?
You don't like it when I extrapolate your naive positions to their global impacts. I can understand that. Seeing the impacts of naive positions exposes those positions for what they are, which makes you look silly. And I can understand not wanting to look silly. But silly ideas should be exposed. |
