The Walkman tried to morph into the Watchman which everyone thought would be the next step in product evolution. I think all the competitors are trying to beat Apple to that level now.

Personally, I don't think that kind of product would catch on too quickly. You can wear and play your iPod or even a walkman in a car or while working. I think it would require too much focus and be dangerous to watch videos while engaging in work or driving.

Instead, I think the iPod is morphing into a digital appliance... I don't want to say PDA.

Microsoft tried to make the computer into a consumer appliance, forcing the consumer to learn how to operate a computer.

Apple appears to be taking the opposite approach. Making a consumer appliance into something of a computer with new entertainment and personal organizer features. Again, I don't know what you would call it, but I'm sure it will not be a PDA as we know it.
