there should be some personal effort and humility in enlightenment. There should also be contrition. I think forgiveness without contrition is a dangerous mix.

Humility is the mark of any man filled with God's spirit. Humility breeds contrition.

My brother's first wife was a Fundamentalist. It appealed to her because she was always making big mistakes she was willing to repeat and needed the carte blanche. She was judgemental and was convinced that she was right

This is tough. You and I realize that the more you know the more you know, you do not know.

There is a scripture which reads, knowledge puffs up but love builds up. We should question our motives more than we do.

We had this very frank discussion (one that I've had with other fundamentalists) and she agreed that if Charlie Manson or Jeffry Dahmer had a Born Again experience, that they'd be ahead of me in line to Heaven.

Well, whatever.

Buddhist-like and respectful of the "many paths" which I suspect is closer to any reality that I could imagine

Here is what gets me, why do we attack others opinions and perspectives? If someone I loved attacked me all the time I would not want to be around them.
