<Thought and introspection have been replaced by TV and Playstation and for some, the computer.>

I consider the computer a brain amplifier and of course amplifiers can amplify ANYTHING. Noise and false data are available and so is the good stuff. One always needs a good filter on an amplifier. Shielding is good too, but sometimes you just have to work in a high-noise environment. That's where the most interesting signals are anyway.

Last night after dinner with a friend, we were discussing how photography had assisted cosmology and aided in the discovery of TRUTH about our universe but the biggest impact was possibly on BUSINESS (in terms of dollars saved) and the entertainment industry! The ability to produce inexpensive copies saved huge amounts of time and money. The social impact was also great. The invention of roll film allowed people to do what could formerly be done only in a factory. Computers, TV and video games are all excellent tools to assist in understanding - content and context determine whether this is "good" or "bad".

For instance, I love the Simpsons because it is accessible to children and provides a forum for discussing important moral issues frequently taught in ironic juxtaposition. Is Ned Flanders as good as he appears? Is the tired and droning Rev. Lovejoy really an effective mouthpiece for the true excitement of divinity? By discussing this, my kids gain a gradual understanding of the duality of the real world. It is ironic, but not really surprising, that it comes from a cartoon. I know some parents won't let their kids watch the Simpsons. Probably good advice if you don't watch it with them.
