Because of 100+ years of observations on the rise of atmospheric CO2 and global temperature rise. This isn't rocket science, as they say. Greenhouse gases have a real effect on the climate, it is indisputable (unless you're a George Bush-style lunatic).

The only question is the extrapolation of past climate records to future projections. I find most climate science, such as represented by the IPCC to be quite conservative in its assessments.

As far as comparing these macro-climate observations and projections to the vagaries of your specific daily weather predictions, I'd simply suggest relying on your arthritis and rheumatism for a barometric prophet. :)
