"This isn't rocket science" You're right. It's _much_ harder than rocket science. The incredible complexity of the coupled ocean-atmosphere system, with lots of chemistry and incompletely-understood inputs from the sun makes for a very hard modelling problem. Some smart person said "All models are wrong. Some models are useful." How far from realism our climate models are is hard to assess at this stage, but you can be sure they all fall short. Gib
