The federal government is forcibly taking more and more. Without an actual revolution, what would you suggest to stop that flow?
By fostering a libertarian spirit amongst the voters, of course. <g>
We, the people, after all, are supporting this siphoning off of power and funds by Washington via our votes and survey responses and letters. We can stop doing that at any time we choose.
there seems to be a structural problem in our society
You raise a number of key issues. Yes, I'm aware of each of them. This is a multi-faceted problem, for sure. I'm not going to address your various questions on homelessness because I think that would distract from the point of this colloquy, which is a clarification of the libertarian approach.
With regard to your questions, how are they better dealt with by giving more power and diverting resources to Washington? If you do not have a great answer to that question, then you must at the very least open your mind about the potential legitimacy of a libertarian approach. I'm not trying to convert you, only to disabuse you of your built-in misconceptions.
Do you think a society where this is the situation is a desirable or ethical place to live, or is this even a consideration with libertarian philosophy?
For some reason, you have so demonized libertarians that you question whether we are after a desirable and ethical world. I'm not trying to convert you, only to disabuse you of your built-in misconceptions. If a bunch of smart people were locked in a room and tasked to answer the question of how to achieve a "desirable and ethical place," do you really think they would conclude that the answer is to give power and money to Washington? |
