Just making sure this part gets noticed:

"Eckhard Cordes, the new chief executive of Mercedes- Benz Group, said last week that the company was still considering the export of Smart cars to the US despite the ill-health of the brand."

So, interesting, huh? So EPA is ZAP's problem number one. Smart's future as such is uncertain, that's ZAP's problem number two. And problem number three is Benz is considering an end run round ZAP, which is screwed to the max without the Smart car. If Benz does bring in the Smart it won't be sold as "used" (which all ZAP versions will be, by law, because of the makeover to meet EPA standards) and I'll bet it'll be cheaper than the ZAP version. Very interesting.
