These religious people may have higher social IQ. They know how to form a group: share a belief. Important in times when the group is more likely to survive than the individual. Almost all advances come through individual efforts, though, that are gradually extended into groups. Sigh... we probably need the religious people to balance the rugged individualists who would kill and eat the other not-quite-as-rugged individualists.
