Why?

'1 - Their particular view of academic freedom.

2 - They don't like people like Bill O'Reilly.

3 - Often either the administration of the school, or a group with intra-school political power, or some outside group with influence supports the professor.'

None of the above matters much.......academia is only willing to pay a certain price for its freedom.......negative national exposure is far more than most institutions are willing to pay.

#3 reduces the price they pay. While they pay the price in one way they might benefit in other ways. Liberals support them for "heroically resisting the horrible conservatives."

Columbia is a highly regarded, private institution who is dependent on the largess of its alumni, many of whom are very conservative.

"Many of whom are conservative" might be accurate. I doubt "Many of who are very conservative" is. Its also true that many of them are liberal.

I don't believe foreign nationals have the right to attack our institutions and create and promote videos that present only their side of the story.

I disagree.

You also probably didn't have a problem with the Israelis who coincidently had a video camera set up and ready to shoot when 9/11 happened.

Two things could be meant by that statement. One interpretations is to take your words very literally. I'll be generous and use that rather than assume that you are implying that it wasn't a coincidence.

Why should I have a problem with people taking videos of 9/11? If Israelis did it they where hardly the only ones.

You do recognize the difference between producing a documentary and stealing nuclear secrets right??

In fact, I don't. Both are a violation. One is simply more serious than the other.

I disagree that "they are both a violation", but even assuming they are, speeding and murder are both against the law, that doesn't mean they are not very different than each other.
