I think on the automobile side there is tremendous opportunity to conserve, but this will only buy us time.

I have one car with 300+ hp that gets 24 mpg on the highway. Another a SUV that gets maybe 16+. There is plenty of opportunity to drive decent vehicles that get 25+mpg on the highway. After that reducing consumption will be quite a bit harder IMO.

I wont be driving no tin can at any cost as long as the roads are dominated by 3-4 ton SUV's.
