The "politicians taking away oil company earnings" comment was was directed to the national oil companies that SA, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Mexico have. The statement is accurate and the result is under-investment in exploration and new technology on the part of those companies.

I'm not sure you're aware of it but corporate profits are not the cause of high oil prices. Supply - demand remains in charge of that.
