Henry, there's a paper out regarding HIV, AIDS and immunity for [mostly] Europeans with a particular gene, which seems to also give immunity to haemorraghic fever, as occurred during the European plagues [which weren't bubonic plague].

I dare say the same gene might give immunity against H5N1, with a bit of luck. The HIV virus is hindered by the gene, as is haemorraghic fever.

That would be nice for the owners of said gene, which is some 10% of northern European populations [which isn't a lot, but enough to keep the buses running on time even in the midst of a pandemic].
