To my mind if you look at some diseases with female predominance - depression, migraine, fibromyalgia and perhaps some types of irritable bowel, you can see a common underlying thread of serotonin malfunction, perhaps modulated by estrogen.

Good point Peter..there are some who say that some of the chemicals we inhale or otherwise injest find themselves at estrogen receptors therefore creating an imbalance?.

What about chronic stress?edit: whatever this stress is..physical or environmental or emotional..the resultant biochemical cascade?..the cortisol levels, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, on and on..we just know the tip of how these all interelate..it's unfortunate that many physicans, nurses, dismiss those whose illness they can't figure out or worse deny them the compassion, assistance(many physicians are plugged in with the disability insurance companies and will obstruct a person's right to receive compensation..I've seen it done..

Indeed it is hard for many physicians to not be able to find 'something'..they were trained to be able to find out all medical answers, cure people..but at this point(21st C., there's enough evidence that it's not possible)...

Granted, there are those who take advantage..but guess what?..whose fault is that really?..the physicians many moons ago who didn't see the biger picture, that it was wrong..they committed the crimes, and now there is a back lash against those who do suffer...My mom has suffered severely(even from some of my sibs not believing the extent of her physical pain)..if not for ME, she would have successfully committed suicide..she was so despondent, despairing because nobody believed the pain she was in, no tests validating the severity..called me up 'to say good-bye', my dad gone for the day...I left Jeff with his parents, got on the Mass Pike, stayed on the cell phone with her, until she passed out..I could not talk her into hanging on until I got there(3 hours later)..the rest is history..she's got a different team of physicians...she's still working through the shame, guilt(life long practicing catholic) of her actions..if ONE of her doctors had "entertained" her and given her a narcotic test dose, or hospitalized her to 'evaluate' this complaining, malingering woman, or cheaper yet, send a vistiting nurse to evaluate this little old lady..it would have quite different..Her first real night's sleep in several years occurred with a morphine drip..she's now on Fentanyl and her doctors are frightened of increasing it eventhough she's developed a tolerance because of the DEA crackdowns..and you know what?..my mom, because she doesn't speak english or write it..hasn't a clue that this is a narcotic!..if she did she'd be freaking out and worried about addiction!!!

Please all, I share this very personal story to say:"Hey..please hear people out..and even if you think "it's all in their head," then there's a profound reason this person is hungering this kind of attention..and this needs ATTENTION..nobody truly wants to be dependent on others..and when they do, there's a problem that needs addressing..

Elisabeth..
