Those are big players in the mortgage insurance market, and they seem to be addressing one of the more egregious areas in housing real estate. This is a clear credit tightening event. I also wonder about the issue of speculators and flippers falsifying applications to lenders by stating they are "owner occupied". The same is true of casualty insurance. (*)Also wonder how this PMI issue would affect financing in hot urban condo market like San Diego and Portland's Pearl District. Are there just other Bubble and slack credit wormholes they could slide into?. How about piggyback loans (the 20% down is covered with a HELOC)? Tom, or anybody in the biz care to enlighten us?

(*) When I owned and ran apartment buildings in Tacoma, insurance companies were on me all the time about my old vintage buildings in rougher neighborhoods, and I ran totally above board operations with good well screened tenents. They'd show and nitpick me to death, and really didn't even want to insure me. Heaven help me if I had lint behind the washing machines in the laundry rooms. I suspect there is a prevasive red lining culture at work here. These rocket scientists just don't see dealing with Bully rentals and empty units in "top" trendy neighborhoods as risky.
