Now SI has devolved into a political bicker fest.
Not entirely; there's still plenty of market related discussion around. But even those are often tainted by the bickering.

Even investment boards have been subject to emotional reactions since the start. The reference to Investor A was related to that subject. I do not recall what thread was his Waterloo. He is generally very careful to post fact or label his posts as opinion. I try to do the same.

Investor A was a short-term alias for the #1 peoplemarked contributor when he violated the TOS. SI allowed him to do that at the time with a wink. I cannot predict if the current Admins would allow it. He was allowed to resume posting using his given name after a short banishment.

If memory serves me, the 3-Com thread became so heated that some person named David Something and a sidekick with some other nickname like scrappie ganged up on anyone posting non-flattering stuff about 3Com. That was probably 7 or 8 years ago.

Then the other matters hit successively. And we ended up here. Civil, factual discussion, while not too common before, is almost unknown now.

You and I can control ourselves. We can chose to retain whatever level of civility we wish. If the juveniles wish to post offensive and childish comments, we cannot control them. I am responsible for my posts. While not always up to my own standards, they tend to remain civil and factual.
