There is some question whether Terry Schiavo is brain dead. I have seen the tape where she seems to respond to stimuli, especially to her parents. I don't have confidence that medical people know enough about the way the brain works to determine her quality of life. Until recently, doctors thought fetuses, infants and children did not feel, pain, for example. They are not infallible. She seems comfortable. I agree with you that scarce medical resources should be reapportioned, but Schiavo's death would not cause that to change.

I guess at this point I am looking at it from the point of view that her parents can afford her care and want to care for her. After the tragedy that occurred in their lives, why inflict another one on them so that her husband, who has moved on in his life with another woman and children, can go ahead and inherit her estate? Like you I don't think there are real absolutes here, but looking at motives, I question his, and don't think the state should be an instrument of death.
