VRB Power & Magnetek unveil 5kW VRB-ESS at CTIA Wireless show in New Orleans Tuesday March 15, 9:31 am ET
VANCOUVER, March 15 /CNW/ - VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB - News) is pleased to announce that in conjunction with Magnetek Telecom Power Group, the 5kW VRB-ESS will be on display at the CTIA (Cellular Telephone Industry Association) Wireless 2005 show in New Orleans today through Thursday March 17th. The 5kW VRB-ESS will be formally introduced to the industry as entirely new technology for telecommunications backup power supply. Product features include:
- 10+ year life with high residual value - Virtually no maintenance - No heavy metals or disposal issues - 50% Lower life cycle cost than traditional VRLA systems - High efficiencies - Cell site applications 24V - 48V - NEMA 3R Outdoor Enclosure
"The VRB-ESS product is the result of Magnetek's Telecom Power Group and VRB Power partnering to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional lead acid battery systems. This technology provides our customers with an on line, self contained back up power solution that is cost effective and extremely reliable", said Jack Conn, VP Sales and Marketing for Magnetek Telecom Power Group. VRB Power will be commercializing a variety of small systems based on the self contained design which range from 2.5kW's to 10kW's (at multiple hours of duration). In addition to the telecoms applications, the small VRB-ESS can be utilized for utility substation backup systems, Remote Area Power Supplies (coupling with small diesel generators to reduce diesel costs and emissions), small commercial buildings and off grid household applications (coupling with renewable generation such as wind & solar). Additional details of the 5kW VRB-ESS can be found on the Company's website at www.vrbpower.com.
"We're extremely pleased to be working with Magnetek to bring this product to market. Their proven competence in developing total power solutions and track record with major telecom's customers are a great fit for our advanced technology storage system", said Mark Kuntz, VP Marketing & Business Development for VRB Power.
CTIA Wireless 2005 is the only show that represents all telecommunications technologies and platforms and tells the complete story of wireless from the tower and infrastructure companies to the carriers and service providers to the end-user hardware manufacturers. The 5kW VRB-ESS is featured at the Magnetek booth No. 2225.
About VRB Power
Based in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, VRB Power Systems Inc. ("VRB Power") is an electrochemical energy storage company that has commercialized the patented Vanadium Redox Battery Energy Storage System ("VRB-ESS") and has acquired the intellectual property rights and assets comprising the Regenesys Energy Storage System ("RGN-ESS") for the purpose of developing similar but larger scale flow battery systems. Both technologies represent a new enabling capability to effectively store electricity on demand. They can provide direct economic benefits to utilities and end users in terms of improved power quality, reliability and energy efficiency. They are particularly well suited to load levelling (peak shaving), electrical power arbitrage, grid stability enhancements, capital deferment and Remote Area Power Supply (RAPS) applications. The company is primarily focused on stationary power sources such as utility substations, commercial buildings, production facilities, telecommunication operations, cellular radio sites, and renewable resource generation such as wind farms - creating the ability to provide "firm" capacity. As "green" technologies, the VRB-ESS and RGN-ESS are characterized by very low ecological impact and are unlike most other conventional energy storage systems that rely on toxic substances such as lead, zinc or cadmium. VRB Power is publicly listed on the TSX Venture Exchange ("VRB") and the OTC Pinksheets ("VRBPF").
