'Distributed power production' (putting production much closer to the users) is an excellent idea for improving our national energy picture... because it REDUCES the huge line-losses that affect our current system.

Look also to 'Net Metering' laws to be passed in the States that don't have them yet, and EXPANDED in the ones that already have some version of Net Metering (over 30 at last count, I believe.)

Why would any financially sensible homeowner or small farm producer put in solar electric cells, bio-mass generator, small hydro plant, or wind system --- unless they can sell their surplus production back into the power grid at wholesale prices?

The entrenched obstruction to Net Metering is a national scandal.
