My guess is that your friends in EU are mostly Germans living in Germany. That makes a difference because they typically watch German TV and read one German Newspaper only. Limits the view somewhat. Most of them are from the UK and Germany living outside of Europe. That of course explains a few things and kind of disqualifies their POV to be "typical European". But it did muse me a little bit to be dubbed a Texan first (because I know about classic US cars) and then a few days later being disqualified as an Oakie because of my POVs...
