Colin, Thanks for the excellent article, very well researched. Hope for the best that the US (maybe Japan too) will not be so foolish to have a war with China over Taiwan because that would be the worst could ever happen for the man kind and this planet.
China’s policy towards Taiwan under Hu JinTao now has some subtle change, using both carrots and sticks<g>. Along with this newly passed anti-secession law, China now might agree to let Taiwan join WHO.
And right now, in LA, some people from 7 Asian countries are launching a million-signature petition, openly against Japan joining the UN Security Council.
Personally, I think the Japanese cruel war act during the WWII contributed a great deal to its current population decline. If Japan decides to go into another war, then they might finish themselves<g/ng>.
The Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping once said in 1980s that in 20th century, China needs Japan more, while in 21st century, Japan will need China more. This is very true.
And due to the Japanese arrogance, it has missed by and large the fast Chinese economic train in 2003 and first half of 2004. And now they are trying to catch up, but might be already too late. Japan’s economic influence in China is decreasing, although slowly, it sets the trend. |
