I was in the Bay Area last week, and two things regarding housing are: 1) Lots of For Rent signs on apartments with move in specials (half month free, or $$$ off first month type of thing) and 2) Rent prices have fallen WAY behind house values. When I rented in Sunnyvale 15 years ago, I paid $1200/m for a three bedroom townhouse which was valued at about $135K. Today, the rent is around $1600/m and the value is about $400K. Lots of housing has been snapped up for investment and rented out for extra income. This is doable with low interest rates and steady value inflation. If either wheel comes off, ....
