I'm not an actuary and you aren't either, so let's get that out of the way.

But I have followed this problem closely since before the restructuring in the early 80s, and I'd wager there isn't another person posting here who has. When I initially posted the FACTS about SS in this thread years ago the problem was scarcely noticed other than by me.

Frankly, the numbers are not even relevant. They don't matter. Because the numbers aren't the problem. The structure of the system, a "Pyramid Scheme", is the problem. And it is what Bush is trying to address and the liberals simply want to use as political weaponry.

All ponzi schemes have one characteristic in common. The longer they're allowed to run, the more people who get hurt when they collapse.

There is no sense in discussing numbers -- other than the up to $60 trillion in unfunded liabilities that hit when the debt comes due. What matters is the fact that the liberals are trying to protect a ponzi scheme.
