They can't be taken away without cause. But there are folks like you and the fresca fella who want them taken away. The distinction you are missing is that rights can be taken away to protect the public. With the death penalty you not only get your rights taken away but your life too. Weird how the left is against killing violent criminals who have killed inocent folks, but usually for terminating life if it will be inconvenient for the woman having the child. "If a person thinks he is being threatened he/she can take another person's life." Not legally. You have to really be threatened with death or great harm. If you just "think" you are threatened, but cannot convince the jurors of that, you will go to jail for manslaughter or murder. Don't be too silly with your word games. You can take a persons life for any reason you want. But you will be hunted down and jailed (hopefully) if you do. "I'm not sure what happens to the poor atheists here" You have rights too. Point being about the creator is not who the creator is. It is that rights are not given by humans. Why would one feel that other humans are so superior that they should tell them what their rights are. Plenty of dictatots out there to do that. This is America though. "Besides, it's your word against his and he's dead" In the highly unliley event that someone dies by my gun, it will be his fault. Shooting someone is a very last resort. If the message is break into someone's house and perhaps die it is better than the guy who wants to protect his family is an a**hole. IMHO.
