AAPL always does that. It is far better PR, if you ask me.

Contrast that with, say, M$FT, which announces things months or years ahead of time, and often doesn't even come close to meeting the anticipated release date. Then, when it it released, there are problems.

I think it is critical that AAPL do whatever it takes to make sure people do not put them in the same category as M$FT. That's why I think the recent litigation re bloggers was a mistake. They should have just ignored it, and not commented. They don't suffer significantly, and the bloggers and geeksites do them a PR service.

Another thing about AAPL's approach---usually the stock gets a nice pop when important announcements are made.
