A Japanese copper company will help build a smelter and refinery at the Oyu Tolgoi copper gold project in Mongolia, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. chairman Robert Friedland said yesterday. Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd. is part of a consortium being formed to build processing facilities at the planned mine, Mr. Friedland told Reuters in Hong Kong. Ivanhoe is also talking to possible strategic partners to build the mine, he said. Vancouver-based Ivanhoe owns Oyu Tolgoi, a copper-gold deposit about 80 kilometres from the Chinese border. IVN (TSX) fell 27 cents to $10.03.
