Complaining to advertisers is one of the most efficient ways of getting the attention of the TV station's front office. The news people generally are a bit insulated from that. But if the Manager of the station is concerned about losing advertising dollars he will raise hell with the news manager, who might even start paying attention to the crap they are getting from the government..and stop airing it.
