I guess the sheepherder is not the one who scoured the internet and purged all reference to the incident. I used every combo I could come up with, and had no Google hits on the incident.

Maybe the Marines recruited him to teach marksmanship.

I remember reading an article about that in Readers Digest. The pilots claimed they were above the 500' minimum and the shepherd was in big time trouble until his pro bono lawyer pointed out that the angle of entry was from above and in front of. Dood was on an outcropping shooting down at the fighter jocks who were chasing his sheep:)
