I'm not just talking about the fields... We definitely do not have a shortage of immigrants in this country, and the excess supply of same is placing downward pressure on living wages, worker's rights, and our environment... There are illegal basement apartments all over the NY Metro area, and this places tremendous strains on things like law enforcement and fire departments, and also artificially raises the value of many homes, as the buyers will pay an insane price knowing they can get people (many of them illegals) to live in the basement to help them pay off their mortgage... So it is high time we crack down, and totally enforce the immigration laws in this country IMHO.
