I am no fan of Henry Waxman, even though I am fairly liberal usually.

I have studied up on starvation, though, and medical withdrawal of food seems to actually be a painless death from what I've read so far. Does anyone have different information?

This is what animals and humans do instinctively when they know it is their time to die. They just stop eating. Dogs and cats go find a quiet place away from everything to do it.
