OK, here are the "facts" circulating in Florida. (I dont know if this is true or not, but this is what is circulating)
1. Years ago a medical malpractice suit awarded substantial funds to her husband who was expected to use them for her care.
2. Up to that time she had been getting some Rehab and actually said a few words and WALKED a few steps.
3. Once he received the reward he STOPPED CARE and stated that his wife had told him she didnt want her life prolonged medically.
4. That was approx 7 years ago and in all the time since she has received no rehab.
5. Some therapists feel that if she had received some rehab she probably could have been taught to eat without feeding tubes, perhaps walked and talked.
6. She has never had any modern medical examinations such as MRI.
7. Just in, apparently when they removed her feeding tubes her mother said, "Terri, if you will just speak we can avoid this" Terri then HOLLERED loud enough to cause the police outside the door to rush in to see what was happening--she hollered I Waaaaah. What that means, no one knows but it seems to show she understands and is NOT in a VEGETATIVE STATE.
So, in summary, many people are asking, myself included, whats the RUSH here, why not do MODERN TESTS to see JUST what is involved here, Why not try some Rehab? Ie why rush it right now?
I dont know the ultimate answer, but I do believe we ought to be sure ESPECIALLY when her parents etc want to take over her care. jdn |
