<And I also think that Christians have as much right to respect as religions from the other side of the world.>

If we claim we are BETTER (whatever that means) then we have to act that way. I've always been bothered that Americans can't swim NUDE or drink in Saudi Arabia, yet visiting muslims expect us to respect their rights here... it seems hypocritical until you realize that they are JUST coming out of a period of extreme isolation (many visiting people are used to societal conformance in their home societies). We have been dealing with an open and multicultural society for about 150 years longer. Even though the Irish weren't as different from the rest of America as current immigrants are now, there were more deeply despised by the typical person.

We are trying to teach a better, more accepting way of life for everyone. Isn't that the American Dream? Not just a refuge from global poverty for white guys? Maybe it's paternalistic to want the U.S. to act better than other countries, but I don't care: the benefit seems to outweigh any personal inconvenience suffered from having to deal with tribal idiosyncrasies. There is a limit: burka's are fine, genital mutilation and child marriage isn't. For a while (maybe a hundred more years) we're going to have to take the lead and it will be more one sided than we'd like. Our moral fiber and alleged tolerance would be far more convincing if we weren't marching around the world like an invading Roman army, though.
