Be done with it. Right.

Just run the MRI scan and be done with it

I don't think so. According to court testimony her parents were asked questions to find what they want for their daughter. ( Page 14 of the previously referenced report )

If she developed gangrene? Cut off her arms and legs. Heart problem? Open heart surgery. Breathing problems? Put her on a ventilator indefinitely. According to their own testimony, there is nothing they won't do to keep her alive as long as possible, and no new information can sway this opinion. EVEN IF THEIR DAUGHTER HERSELF ASKED THEM TO REMOVE ARTIFICAL LIFE SUPPORT, they testified they would not - this is documented in court records.

Now I've seen lots of speculation about Michael's motives, but curiously none about her family's. This determination verging on desperation to keep her alive doesn't come from their Catholic faith as I understand it. Then what?
