Ray,

Re: "I've never understood Matthews' muddled politics"

Matthews is an unabashed old-time liberal, a former employee of both Tip O'Neill and Jimmy Carter. He is also a working journalist, who tries to be more like Tim Russert than James Carville and Paul Begala, the last individual being completely without principle. At his best, Matthews is a neutral inquisitor, as befits his status as a "journalist." Last year he was not neutral. While I know that you will probably not agree with this assessment, I think that Joe Scarborough, who make no bones about being a conservative, does a pretty good job at being a "neutral" inquisitor. We would all be better served if the talking heads hosting these verbal combat driven shows made an attempt to tone down their shows.

Re: "When was this? I find this to be hard to believe. The ruse of little alan's timid meekness was set in stone the very first episode I ever gagged on."

I watched the program the first week and had to turn it off. Of course it could be that we were both watching the same program with different glasses on. <gg>
