I think almost all cultures have some sort of winter feasting--the pagans started it. The winter feasting happens during the last ten or so days in December because those are the shortest days of the year. Jesus was not born in December. The Christians glommed onto an existing pagan celebration in order to gain acceptance for their religion.

So everyone in the northern hemisphere seems to me to deserves some kind of holiday around that time. Why should atheists not be able to celebrate and get paid for the time off like everyone else? They gather their families together, exchange gifts, warm themselves and have big winter dinners just like everyone else, plus they probably deserve a little extra time off for trying to stay tolerant when all those religious Christmas carols are blasting into their ears from all directions.
