The 05Q1 AMD & Intel EPS Contest has officially started.
Some helpful links are posted at the end of this message.
The entry deadline will not be set until we get confirmation on when AMD is reporting earnings. To avoid any confusion like we had 2 quarters ago (AMD reported much earlier than expected, causing us to move our deadline forward) I recommend entering sooner rather than later.
A few key items about this quarter's contest (which are also elaborated upon in the rules page linked below):
DEADLINE: As soon as we get confirmation on the date of AMD's earnings report we will solidify the contest deadline. We are assuming AMD will report the day after Intel, which is historically when they have done it, with the one obvious exception already mentioned. So we aren't going to set a definitive contest deadline until we get final word. Bottom line, get your entry in sooner rather than later and you don't have to be concerned about it.
ONE-TIME CHARGES: We are no longer going to adjust earnings for the contest results because of one-time charges. Instead, whatever each company reports in their earnings release income statement under "DILUTED EARNINGS PER SHARE" is what we will use in the EPS category. This will make the EPS category slightly less predictable in the event that there is a one-time charge or gain, but there will be no confusion as to what number to use for the contest.
CHANGE OF INTEL CATEGORIES: We are changing two Intel categories in order to better compare results between the two companies. What used to be the IAG Revenue category will now be the Intel Microprocessor Revenue category. What used to be the ICG Revenue category will now be the Intel Flash Revenue category. The historical data on the Guidance page has been updated to reflect these changes. The revised categories do NOT add up to equal the total revenue like they used to, so please make a note of the change.
HOUSEKEEPING CHANGES: We are simplifying things a bit by simply allowing one revision, period. Call it a correction, revision, change, modification, whatever you wish, but you only get to do it once. We have added a checkbox at the bottom of the entry form to make sure everyone knows this and double checks things (if they so desire) before submitting either their entry or their revision. Also, we have added a separate form link for "Revising Your Entry". The intent is to make it somewhat cleaner and quicker than using the Regular Entry Form. None of the prize info is shown on the revision form page. Also, you only need to enter data in categories you wish to change; everything unchanged can remain blank.
ENTRY PHASES: As with last quarter, we start with the "early entry phase". The bonuses are bigger but none of the entries or statistical data is revealed. Once we get about 20 entries or by about April 1st (whichever comes first) we will begin the "regular entry phase". Entries and statistical entry data are revealed for all to see, but bonuses are smaller for those entering in this latter phase. If AMD decides to report early we may also start the regular entry phase earlier than scheduled.
