What possible reason can you possibly think of that justifies abducting a Canadian citizen and dropping him in some Syrian jail at the mercy of Syrian jailers?

What is wrong with detaining him in US if he is suspected with something?

What is wrong with sending him to Canada (where he was going anyway) if you don't want him on US soil?
