Interwoven Document and E-Mail Management Improves Customer Service at Cummings & Lockwood LLC
WorkSite 8's Matter-Centric Collaboration Empowers Firm to Increase Productivity, Efficiency and Shorten Client Response Time
3/21/2005 8:01:28 AM

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 21, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Interwoven, Inc. (IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that Cummings & Lockwood, one of the largest law firms in the country that focuses on the needs of private clients and their businesses, has implemented Interwoven for its unique matter-centric collaboration approach and integrated e-mail and document management (DM). Cummings & Lockwood adopted Interwoven WorkSite 8 to replace an existing DM system that did not allow documents and e-mails to be organized according to client matters, and therefore required lengthy profile forms to be filled out for each document, resulting in firm-wide inefficiencies and work duplication.

With offices throughout Connecticut and Florida, Cummings & Lockwood has the expertise, technology and resources to offer the highest level of legal services to its clients, which include families with inherited and newly created wealth, as well as emerging, middle market, and Fortune 500 companies. Cummings & Lockwood staff have developed a reputation for being extremely customer focused and responsive.

"In order for us to provide the high-touch relationships that our clients have come to expect, we need the support of an easy-to-use, comprehensive and dependable document and e-mail management solution -- but, our previous system just wasn't up to the task," said Cynthia Aylsworth, administrative director at Cummings & Lockwood. "Because Interwoven WorkSite works the way lawyers do, our staff is already more efficient, translating directly into better and faster service for our clients."

Interwoven WorkSite 8 software is based on a unique paradigm known as matter-centric collaboration (MCC). MCC represents a user-centric design, which, for the first time, enables lawyers and other professional services practitioners to manage matter-related content in the electronic world the way they have done for more than 100 years in the physical world. MCC creates the true electronic equivalent of a case file by consolidating documents, e-mails, billing, contacts, and all other relevant content for any given matter in a single integrated file that is accessible both internally and externally across departments and locations. The e-mail management capabilities of WorkSite 8 provide automatic and simplified user-controlled methods, which streamline and automate the filing of e-mails and documents into dedicated "matter" folders. As a result, organizations can keep track of hundreds of thousands of e-mails as WorkSite 8 makes them readily available in the document management system.

Accessible via the familiar Microsoft Outlook interface in which Cummings & Lockwood attorneys spend the majority of their time, Interwoven WorkSite allows the firm to organize both e-mails and documents into files regarding clients or individual matters. These matter files are simple to use with minimal training, and available online from any location, at any time. As a result, Cummings & Lockwood's attorneys are able to spend less time searching for files and printing e-mails, and more time focused on the actual practice of law.

"WorkSite has already allowed us to reduce costs associated with searching for documents and alleviated problems around lost documents and the unnecessary re-creation of information," added Aylsworth.

Furthermore, Interwoven WorkSite easily integrates with Cummings & Lockwood's existing IT systems including docketing, records management, eCopy imaging and financial management. Ultimately, Cummings & Lockwood will have a single view into all the information attorneys need to get their jobs done. "As a smaller firm with limited regional IT staff, it was very important for us to be able to provide a high-quality experience for all our staff, regardless of location. Interwoven is a key piece of our infrastructure making that a reality," added Aylsworth.

"Interwoven WorkSite has helped attorneys at Cummings & Lockwood enhance their already close working relationships with clients-in turn enabling the firm to maintain its high degree of customer service and loyalty," said Neil Araujo, vice president for legal and professional services solutions at Interwoven. "We are happy to be the vendor that could meet their needs for matter-centric collaborative document and e-mail management."
