There are thousands of PVS patients across the country kept alive in this manner. There are even more kept alive through significant care who have no hope of recovery.

Probably because it's their wish to be kept alive. People who would wish to be kept alive are external to the question at hand so your point doesn't inform the discussion.

I would be more useful to know how many there are being kept alive contrary to their wishes and how many have been allowed to die in accordance with their wishes. But there are probably no data on either of those, particularly the former.
